RCMP on Bell Island are investigating a high level of criminal activity on the island over the past four weeks including damage to property and break-ins.
Since June 20, there have been nine incidents of damage/attempted damage to property involving rocks or bottles thrown at windows/siding and vehicles.
Also there were four break and enters, and one attempted break and enter. that occurred in the same time frame.
One break and enter was into a vacant apartment that saw damage to cupboards, the stove hood and an electric stove was removed.
Another break and enter involved culprits breaking into the library and removing a small amount of money and into the community health part of the same building stealing an Ipod/docking station.
Another break and enter involved thieves breaking into the heritage building, stealing a box of salt/vinegar chips, a box of chocolate bars, a case of pop, and the purse of a volunteer that had been left in the building. The purse held personal identification, credit cards and cheques.
There was also an attempted break and enter into Kings service center. There was damage but entry was not gained. A small vehicle was seen leaving the area following this attempt.
All of these offences occurred between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5:15 a.m.
Police have charged one person for one of the damage incidents to date.
The RCMP is looking for the assistance from the community to help identify those responsible for these and any other criminal activity by reporting any information to any detachment of the RCMP or Crime stoppers.
