A man charged with aggravated assault for allegedly biting a piece off another man's ear was denied bail this morning in provincial court in St. John's.
Jason Alexander English allegedly committed the offence during a downtown fight a few months ago. The 30-year-old was arrested May 24 after the early morning incident on George Street.
Police said English headbutted another man and then bit off a piece of his ear. The man was sent to hospital and needed plastic surgery to repair his ear.
English - the owner of the former strip bar, The Crazy Horse, on Duckworth Street in St. John's - is charged with aggravated assault, assault, two counts of uttering threats and breaching the conditions of a conditional sentence.
Last year, English was sentenced to 21 months' house arrest on drug-related charges. One of the conditions was that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
He is scheduled to be back in court again on July 21.
