The man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a downtown alleyway will have to wait until next week to find out whether or not he'll be allowed out of jail.
The bail hearing for Manuel John Clark began in provincial court today, but didn't finish when court was due to close for the weekend.
It is scheduled to resume Monday.
Before the hearing, Clark entered guilty pleas to charges from incidents not relating to the alleged sexual assault.
The 34-year-old was sentenced to 46 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a theft from Sears from March 2007 and breaching court orders.
He has yet to enter pleas on charges relating to the downtown incident - sexual assault and assault.
He was arrested July 7, hours after police were alerted at 3:15 a.m. that a woman was in distress in the laneway towards the east end of Water Street connecting with Harbour Drive.
The woman was returning to a cruise ship she worked on when the assault was reported to have happened.
According to police, she was walking with Clark down the alleyway.
But the woman, who is not believed to be from the province, did not know him until an hour before the incident, according to police.
Clark was arrested a few days after police issued a warrant for his arrest and alerted the media.
Clark's lawyer, Bob Buckingham, told reporters his client denies the allegations.
