Fabian Manning has announced he has quit the senate and will be running for the conservatives in the riding of Avalon.

Senator Beth Marshall will be his campaign manager.

Manning said that his first love and the real decision-making is in elected politics and not in the senate.

At his announcement in Holyrood this evening there were several provincial cabinet ministers and MHAs, making it clear that the ABC (Anything But Conservative) campaign is a thing of the past.

Why did he wait three days into the election to resign from the Senate? At $340 per day, he made more than $1,000 by waiting until Monday to resign. That's OUR $1,000 folks.

( I have posted this ( my comment) on ever politcal article i can find. Please take us the youth of NFLD into consideration.. Have a read and i sure hope you understand. Thank you. ) I'm a young Newfoundlander and Labradorian, and it really displeasures me to see such stupidity and selfishness among my elder. You people are blind and oblivious if you think for a second that Harper is not forming a majority and to an even more sad realization you people are saying don't elect Manning or Sullivan. Do you want all the young and up and coming youth in our Province ( myself included) to simply have no hope. Our province has so much potential in the coming months to sign major deals that will create jobs and allow us to prosper... however those deals will be tossed out the window without any voice in the federal cabinet. So you people think its a good idea to be spite full and send no seats to Harper... do you honestly think he gives a damn how many seats we send him. However Manning has a strong relationship there with him... that could do this province wonders.. like Crosbie and Mulrooney in the past. In closing i'll just ask you with all my heart.. think of us just leaving university, and high school.. Do you think it's going to do us good by sending no one to Ottawa on our behalf.. i think not. These liberal members have just been slapping there gums as far as i can see it. What benefit to us did we get from them being there... absolutly nothing. Remember of your embarrassing spite filled ways.. you get more with honey then you do with vinegar. Please don't make this election another newfie joke Thanks, Young Newfoundlander and Labradorian

Mr. Manning we the people of Avalon will not forget that greasy grin and the applauding you done when Harper and Company stripped Newfoundland 10 billion dollars because you and your leader would not honor the Atlantic Accord agreement with your home province. Well not that the Senate seat is vacant, can I be appointed......I can work part time for $130k plus a year until I am 75. What a mistake/joke unless he has other intentions to line his pockets....

Looks at little opportunistic. No Danny or the ABC campaign to contend with this time. Harper gave him a nice Senate seat for his last efforts. Fabain got some good mileage out of this appointment locally visiting the ridings giving out gifts from Ottawa. I guess it's time to pay Steve back now. Although, the last election I believe Steve said to Danny he didn't need our NL seats to form a government. Let's hope he still doesn't!

Congratulations Fabian! Finally we will get representation again! It's been a long few years. A true testament to your integrity that you would resign from the Senate to seek re-election! It's that passion for our district that we need! May 2nd is yours!

Kudos to Mr. Manning's clear passion for the democratic process! It is a man of uncommon integrity who would abandon the security of a Senate appointment to offer himself for the service of the electorate. In his former district of St. Mary's The Capes, we always knew him as such...a true man of the people...as demonstrated to the people of the province when he voiced his opinion on raw material sharing at a dear cost to himself. I look forward to having him return to his rightful place in the House of Commons...as an Honourable Minister!
