MAXNL, I'm not going to educate you on what teams did what during the lockout. Oklahoma got some great young talent because of the lockout and I favour them to win the calder cup this year. In general, Canadian teams can't afford the superstars the Americans can. That's why most of Canada's best players are playing for the yanks and not for us. But then anyone who gave this article a click can't know too much about hockey anyway.

the icecaps are not that good of a team, they are the old manitoba moose and their parent club the winnipeg jets were not that good either. the jets played at the small mts centre, where ticket prices went through the roof, food/beverage prices way too high, and what about the parking and other cost. the nhl players/owners created the lockout mess because of GREED. all we have heard from players/owners was: its all about the fan. BOLONIE, its about GREED and nothing else.

If the IceCaps parent team was the Edmonton Oilers, they'd be in good shape? Yet the IceCaps are bad because their parent team is Canadian, and Canadian teams can't afford superstars? Ummm, what? On what planet does this make sense? Don't worry, just because Robin points out that they're not doing very well, that doesn't mean they're leaving St.John's. This season and next season are complete sellouts, so it really doesn't matter how they do on the ice.

The same question could have applied to Michael Jordan.

There wasn't a lockout last year. There's been two seasons. There is nowhere near enough evidence to suggest a downward trend... If the caps parent team was the LA Kings or the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Edmonton Oilers, we'd be in damn good shape this year. But we're not because our parent team is a Canadian team and Canadian teams can't afford superstars like the yanks. So now we have them to compete with. Knock off with your nonsense b'y. Anything's better than the St. John's Make-Believes or the friggen fog devils.

'Pass yourself' is an old Newfoundland expression which I believe originated in Ireland. As an exhortation to others, it means you should make at least a modest show of wanting to do something even if your heart really isn't in it. This pretty much sums up the calibre of play I have witnessed from the Caps at Mile One so far this season. One has to wonder if it is related to the NHL lockout. When star players can't look forward to the possibility of a call-up based on a stellar performance with the farm team, then maybe the motivation just isn't there. Mentally they could be in laid-back, injury avoidance mode awaiting a settlement and resumption of play in the big leagues. At least it is one possibility.
