Phelan argues that disruptions at the airport have been minimal, and then turns around and argues that a settlement is urgently needed. This doesn't make sense. Personally, having used the airport several times since the strike began, I have not noticed any disruption at all. This tells me that the unionized workers who are on strike don't add a lot of value to the airport's operations - certainly not enough to justify the outrageous 56% raise they are demanding over four years, with 34% of that in the first year, retroactive to 2009. Now that winter is ending, the airport will be easier to operate and maintain, so there will be even less pressure on management to surrender to the union's absurd demands. I say let them keep striking and let the union instead of the airport authority pay them to do nothing.
