With the upcoming fall municipal election, I encourage every citizen to vote and encourage new candidates to run.
I want change. The first thing I’d like to see is the abolishment of permits for homeowners.
Second, I’d like the see city rules and regulations applied to everyone. For example, the city says that half of your frontage has to be seeded lawn. How can you have that if you have a two-car driveway and a townhouse? Obviously, the rules don’t apply to everyone.
Third thing I would like to see city employees paid a salary without fringe benefits. I wonder how many would work for the city then?
Fourth, I would like to see the City of St. John’s held to the same standards to which it holds homeowners. For instance, if I was disturbing the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of neighbouring properties, the city would be down in no time flat to rectify the situation. What about the city rectifying the same situation on their land? My house abuts a city’s walkway leading to a city park. It is a hangout. My quiet and peaceful enjoyment of my home is no more.
I know the changes I want. What about you? Vote. Make a difference.
