All through the House …

T’was two weeks before Christmas
And all through the House
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a louse

The House it had closed

The fall’s work was done

So off to the district

For Christmas everyone

How is this possible

I wondered aloud

The House closed so early

What kind of a crowd?

What happened to holding

The government to task?

What happened to all

The questions to ask?

The house never ever

Closes this early

The opposition keeps it open

Till the government gets surly.

The night sittings, the rhetoric

The shouts and debate

Goes on till the 20th

Or some later date

Sammy Claus was disappointed

That he didn’t take his seat

After taking the byelection

And Harrington he beat

But Sammy you need

To talk to your boss

The House only closes

When the opposition is lost

Governments open the House

That is the deal

But opposition closes it

This too is real

So up on the Hill

Where is the clatter

Why did they close

What is the matter

With Dwight the new elf

And his premier design

You’d think he’d push Kathy

To the end of the line

And Lorraine with her

     complaining

Of a House not sitting

Would push to stay open

Instead of heading off knitting

So, off to the homestead

That is where they will go

With visions of grandeur

Or walks in the snow

I wonder the wishes

they have for next year?

What fantastic desires

do they hold dear?

Dwight of course

With those preacher good looks

Will pray that the new year

Gets his hands on the books

He will hope that his caucus

Intellectually light

Will find the inspiration

That gives a party some might

And dear Lorraine

What is she to do?

Without Chris and Dale

She is now down to two

’Tis the season of miracles

So hope is not lost

But for her party methinks

It’ll be a personal cost

Then there is Kathy

With the government to run

And no matter what turn

She is under the gun

On Muskrat, on CETA,

On oil and on fishes

You know from Santa

She has so many wishes

But ahead of them all

Far out on top

Is that the bleeding will end

The sliding will stop

That people would see her

For the work that she’s done

Without a doubt

That is wish Number 1.

But for now all is quiet

All three have a break

From the thankless life

They decided to take

For all of their warts

Like them or not

Deep down inside

They’re not a bad lot

We love to hate them

Give them a rough ride

Chastise them and mock them

Depending the tide

But in the spirit of Christmas

Cut them some slack

There is time in the new year

For any attack

Be thankful we live

In such a lucky place

Where government gets done

With some semblance of grace

So apologies again

Poetry isn’t my thing

Criticism my way

Feel welcome to sling

Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year.

Jerome...i guess Taylor must have hit a nerve! Sometimes the truth hurts i guess.

I see former NHL goons getting paid to be experts on all the sports networks. But that's entertainment. Trevor Taylor getting paid to write this kind of garbage is outrageous!

Not sure what Corporate Psycho read...this is a great poem to state how things are in the province. I like Taylor's take on things but my favorite is Dwight's 'preacher good looks'...you summed it up nicely there Trevor! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Well Corporate Psycho...the opposition could have kept the House open longer! Thats usually the way its always been...the opposition can keep the debate going as long as they want! The little i watched the opposition asked pretty well the same questions everyday so i don't think they had anything new to keep it going. PS...this has also been the longest Fall sitting in years. Just sayin...

I agree with you on that point.

Taylor is right. With this government knowing they are getting the heave in 2015 someone needs to watching them 24 hrs a day.
