Folk fest wrap
The ninth annual Kelligrews Railway Folk Festival, a fundraising event for Kelligrews Ecological Enhancement Program (KEEP), was held Aug. 15 with an entertaining lineup of musicians. The girls’ and ladies’ choirs from Musically Inclined performed, as well as Thom Coombes and The Veys (with Rita Blundon). Longtime volunteer performers The Barnacle Boys were back to keep the crowds dancing.
The Protected Areas Association Green Team performed a special environmentally themed skit for children, and the C.B.S. Green Team offered children’s activities including a recycle toss, fish pond, soccer, crafts and face painting. There were many spins of the wheel, with prizes donated by members of Conception Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and businesses throughout the region. The festival also provided an opportunity to view KEEP’s vision for the Kelligrews Trail, plus natural and cultural exhibits of the former railway and the community.
KEEP thanks the musicians who volunteered their time, as well as the town of Conception Bay South, which supplied equipment and summer students for the day; Coast 101.1 FM for their coverage; and all the volunteers who helped out with the event.
Green Team wrap
The C.B.S. Green Team finished up their summer working with local community groups on Aug. 20. The four students reported they had a wonderful summer working in Conception Bay South, and thanks the town of Conception Bay South, Conception Bay South Parks Commission and community partners for their support of the Conservation Corps.
