I agree with you about the processed fruit. It ain't fresh. I think you will find too, that middlin' restaurants call frozen cod "fresh"; I am assuming that is as opposed to salted. You think, maybe? Also, I have to tell you a little tale. It isn't just Newfoundland and Labrador. Some years ago, my self, my mate and my two children went to PEI for a quick trip - my first. Since PEI is King of the potato, I looked forward to a multitude of restaurants specializing in the potato. I guessed there would be sixteen different selections of spud with the protein as a sort of side dish. Man was I wrong! We couldn't even get a home-cut, "home-made" french fry. It became a game. We would ask, "do you have homemade french fries?". The server would nod in the affirmative, and say, "Fresh frozen from down the road". I would say but that's not fresh, home made, or hand cut. That's frozen french fries. They would say, "But it's fresh frozen from down the road". It was the strangest thing...talk about training and propaganda.

Karl Wells - I have not read you for awhile but as usual you are very laborious to read. No zip, no pep, too much effort at description, confusing, rambling, overly detailed narrative and, most of all as usual, extremely nit-picky. Masquerading as a be all end all food critic. I am so tired after reading this I probably won't read you again for a long time. I need to rest.
