‘Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives’. (Charles William Dement, Psychiatrist, Mount Sinai Hospital, New York). Our psychic-CLR, one would suppose in simplistic lay-terminology. That said, and while taking the gentleman at his word, ‘quietly and safely insane’ for most of us, I would suggest, is still not a descript which would leave many feeling warm and fuzzy upon awaking…in a cold sweat. While Dr. Dement’s sentiments may indeed have sound flotation potential within science, I’m not sure that it offers much succour to a great many of us, fairly functional mortals; perhaps subliminally moving us to seek medication which would enhance our abilities to experience even greater heights of terror, as we sleep; nor am I, personally, rushing to reach out for some subliminal reason why-not! Thanks Russell, an interesting read.
