  • Who is listening to the logic being put forward by concerned citizens on the risks of Muskrat Falls?
    July 22, 2012 - 15:00

Who is listening to us, the electorate? Will there be a recourse for us with litigation against the developers who are not paying attention to our warnings of logic, when this project presents itself as a "white elephant"? It is as plain as the nose on our face those who are pushing this, are the same as those who will get rich from this and who don't give a damn that the hydro consumer who already is over burdened with the high kilowatt hour rate for electricity will suffer onerously. Are we going to be allowed to freeze in the dark? We already know that Governments, including ours have grown heartless and don't care about the ordinary citizen's needs with regards to the right to decent Medicare or having reasonable rates for energy for fixed income persons. The only ones that governments care about are the rich and powerful, some of them being ex-politicians who have control over the development of our natural resources for their own personal use and the big Corporations who always have the influence of the ears of the leaders of Governments.

Could it be that the passage of government's new Official Secrets Act (Bill 29) will play a role in this litigation?......... Perhaps my recollection is not correct, but didn't either Bruno or Brad Cabana, in their comments, refer to the existence of some cabinet or other government documents? Of course, the new Secrets Act would, I guess, make it very difficult if not impossible now for them to access such documents, if indeed they ever did or still do exist.

This whole project is one of the seediest and scariest undertakings I have ever experienced as a Newfoundlander. If we the people knew the half of the backroom dealings and dirty politics that have happened to take us up to this point I'm sure it would make our hair stand on end. Sad that only a few people seem to be able to fit the pieces together and see this for what it really is. I'm glad there are are the dedicated few who choose to keep the feet to the fire and get the facts out.
