Does the telegram pay people to write this BS.Regetta day has been and still is just fine the way it is.Posters from Mount Pearl and other non city areas should be off work on Regetta day as I think most are from the city by birth and even if not the holiday would be a great treat for all.People just got to whine about something and that says a lot about people these days!!!!

Don't kid yourself Political watcher, most people do not go down for the races, it's for the carnival games and food. It is odd to have a holiday that's weather dependent. As for Gerry's comment that if it was held on a weekend we would get people come in from out of town to enjoy the festivities, I doubt it, most people who aren't from St. John's do not have the same attachment to the Regatta as people born here.

Here we go again, someone complaining that they just can't adjust to having to get up on a Wednesday morning to see if they have to wok or stay home. I don't think for one minte that they should change the day; Regatta Day, like many other items, is very unique to Newfoundland and sets us apart from others. Where else does a group of volunteers decide whether or not we will have day off? Besides, the mid-week break is a welcome one. As well, move it to a Monday and many will just take it as another long weekend and head out of town and pass on the Regatta all together. Remember, the Regatta provides an opportunity for some of the Provinces best athletes to show case their skills and hard work and many charaties benefit from the sale at their boths. Move it to a Monday and much of this would be lost all for the sake of some waning another weekend at the cabin or in the park. Gerry, I am amazed that you would even raise the question.
