I'm far from a Stephen Harper fan, but I think Brian jumped the gun on this one a little bit. From my understanding, it is not the finding of the ships that will aid in exercising sovereignty in the Arctic, but the geophysical mapping which is a part of the search. Much of the ocean floor in this area has never been mapped, and it is these maps which will aid in boundary disputes.

Still not quite sure what the editor is trying to say here! Perhaps a readers digest version might give a clue. If there is a suggestion that anything that happened prior to 1867 is not 'Canadian' then that would mean that anything that happened prior to 1949 is not Newfoundland history. Or that the war of 1812 had no influence on Canadian or even American history. If this is the point then in my opinion you are quite incorrect.
