I am writing in response to a letter from Cindy Guy, published on May 29. In it, she accuses me of "name-calling." Where in my letter did I call Darin King any other name but his own?
In my letter, I made reference to King's behaviour and likened it to that of a sculpin, and I make no apology for that. When politicians behave badly, governments tend to behave badly. When politicians behave like clowns, government becomes a circus.
The lampooning of public figures is a long and honourable tradition, and most of what I've written is mild compared to what you can find elsewhere.
Cindy's namesake, the immortal Ray Guy, never hesitated to skewer politicians whenever they deserved it, and I, though I could never hope to match his prowess, feel similarly moved to comment on foolishness, hypocrisy, "low, gutter politics" and other dastardly behaviour any time I see it.
