I write concerning “Residents blindsided by downtown project,” May 30. I agree with Lionel West that we should not encroach any further on Nunnery Hill; it will kill the awesome feeling of being in a place like Coronation Street. I took a stroll there for the first time last August and could hear the theme music in my mind.
We must also think of children in that area. Older kids need a place to congregate and play, climb a tree.
If houses are inevitable, it needs to stay quaint — more than three small bungalows would be inappropriate.
Why not take down the Basilica and invest in condominiums instead? What a waste of prime properties that give people a place to view the scenery. Instead, they turn their backs on nature.
And what’s going on with the Southside Hills? The gouging out to obtain shale has made it an eyesore. It’s not like we don’t have other places to get shale.
It’s time to stop and replace that area with topsoil, and plant trees. You wouldn’t see Hollywood Hills on the receiving end of such destruction.
