Traffic-calming measures are too much

I write regarding the speed bumps on Old Topsail Road. I have had the occasion, or maybe I should say misfortune, to drive down Old Topsail Road a couple of times in the last two weeks. What a catastrophe!

I realize that the livyers of Old Topsail Road were very outraged by the speeders travelling through their neighbourhood, and rightly so. However, our councillors, or road planners, got a little excessive with traffic slow-down.

A roundabout island in the middle of the road intersecting a side street, speed bumps about every 150 feet, sidewalks that jut out into the roadway is a little bit overkill, and all on one road! Come on council, what next? I can only imagine what will happen come winter with snow piled up on both sides of Old Topsail Road.

I hope that if council is planning more traffic slow-down measures on other streets in similar situations, they rethink their planning for my tax dollars.

Thank you for the opportunity for using space in your paper.

I could not agree more, their plans for Carrick Dr. Are overkill! The sheer volume of traffic has taken care of the speeding, put a speed bump in front of the those who have complained, as usual as we have seen in the last 4 yrs planning is a foreign Concept to those in control.

I agree; it's overkill. For those who have travelled in Europe, the roundabout is a joke! And the curbs jutting into the driving lanes are just a hazzard.
