Stamp out animal cruelty

I love animals and after reading today’s Telegram, I had to write to express my disgust on how animals are treated in this province.

First of all, I know exceptional pet owners who love their furry friends like family and make this world a better place for them.

It is those irresponsible and morally bankrupt people who hurt animals that I aim my letter at.

When I read about the four puppies abandoned at a parking lot and the cat who had its eyes shot at with a pellet gun, it broke my heart and those persons responsible for such cruelty are unfit to be called human.

Why have animals and then hurt or abandon them?

If such persons can’t treat animals humanely, God help any human under their care.

It’s time to stamp out animal cruelty with hefty prison terms and lifetime bans on pet ownership. We need to be better than this in N.L. so our furry friends can live with dignity.

No, Abdul, I would say that hunting, for sport or for food, is not animal cruelty.

Does hunting for sport count as cruelty? I'm just asking.

Yes, well i think it should count . Imagine if you were being hunted by some strange creature, wouldn't you think it would be cruel. It is different if it is for food so you can survive but for sport i think it is completely and utterly cruel to shoot an animal for basically no reason. I know you were just asking but anyone who's thinks it's okay to do this might as well be beating their pet dog or even another human because just because its a "sport" it doesn't make it okay. In my opinion i strongly disagree with poaching or hunting even for sport, i just think it is wrong to do this to an animal. Why should animals be treated like they are less than humans? So i am sorry but i think that hunting for sport does count as cruelty
