Your article “MUN medical school researchers receive national honour” in the Sept. 24 issue certainly reflects well on the talented recipients of this honour.
Interestingly, your article first reveals the names of those honoured thusly: “Jane Green and Dr. Proton Rahman.”
Readers not familiar with the individuals might infer that Jane Green does not hold a doctoral degree. She does, although her degree is different than Dr. Rahman’s. Dr. Rahman earned the M.D. degree and is a medical practitioner as well as being a teacher and researcher. Dr. Green earned the PhD and is a teacher and researcher.
Both are equally deserving of the honorific “Dr.”
