I commend The Telegram on the recent municipal election coverage, with articles detailing the St. John’s candidates (Sept. 21), and the post election articles.
However, I did find the coverage too little and too late, in consideration of a mail-in ballot in St. John’s.
It seems to me that with an
objective of the informed voter, the media coverage should take place
after the end of nominations and before voter receipt of the mailed-out ballots.
Coverage of the candidates three days before municipal elections on Sept. 24 may be adequate in a one-day poll election, but inadequate in the case of a mail-in ballot period.
It is a disservice to the interested public to present this information, on councillors in particular, so late in the vote.
