For many years now I have been attending Spirit of Newfoundland shows. I first saw them at Haymarket Square, then at the Majestic, and in recent years at the Masonic Temple.
While the locations may have changed, the calibre of the entertainment has remained superb and the entertainment value second to none. Every time I leave a show I promise myself that I must write a letter to the editor complimenting our fabulous province and the talent that we so abundantly possess and so professionally share. I finally kept this promise.
While I may not be the most worldly of travellers, I have had the opportunity to see shows in New York, Toronto and London. I challenge you to find anything better than our homegrown talent. For a very reasonable price, you get a night out, a delicious meal and true enjoyment. You will laugh and cry and sit awestruck by the ingenuity, creativity, passion and raw talent that leaves you speechless every time.
Give it a try, and when the night draws to a close and the performers stand to sing the “Spirit of Newfoundland Song,” I can almost bet that you will feel a little tear run down your cheek. Oh what a beautiful place we so proudly call home!
