Not enough pay

The issue of the minimum wage has been in the news again and I have the feeling that if I were looking for the top 10 scandals today, the present minimum wage would be one of them.

The minimum wage needs to be doubled immediately if the right to live and the dignity of workers are going to be respected.

The lowest-paid workers have been slaves for far too long and the preposterous trend of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer has dragged society down too far already.

Slavery and poverty are fast in the process of becoming a crime against humanity.

The selfishness and greed which have poisoned the politics and corporations of the day have held sway for far too long, and real democracy, with good morals and respect for others, needs to be re-inserted into the present system.

Perhaps those slaves should be doing something to get out of the minimum wage loop. Not even Alberta has a $20.00 minimum wage. Good Grief.......stop subscribing to the Payne/Micheal idology

For all the nay sayers out there, why not do what was done at a WalMart (the King of minimum wages) in Cleveland this week? To refresh your memory, WalMart set up an internal employee only food bank to help fellow workers who are struggling this Thanksgiving. Lets do the same thing here.

Joseph, maybe you should start a company and give your people $20/hr to start. Let me know how long you remain a going concern.

But what if everyone gave 20$ an hour then it would be even.

How do you manage to make ends meet working at minimum wage, J? I'm sure if you don't you'll be asking your employer to drop your wage to minimum so that your boss can remain a going concern.

edwartt: You should really run for office. Yours is the superior intelligence and economic genius of a Newfoundland politician, no question. A campaign platform of $20 an hour wages for the completely unskilled, combined with a 100% provincial income tax rate, and government jobs for everyone, is nothing short of an perpetual economic growth machine. Huzzah!

Here's a newsflash for Chantal and her "disciples"...the minimum wage could by $50, houses supplied free by the government and the work week dripped to 5 hours.....and there will be more people claiming they can't 'make ends meet' than ever before. It's who we are. People with government-subsidized delusions about that to which they are 'entitled'. Got your lotto tickets yet ?
