On behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information, I extend appreciation to pharmacy teams across the province during Pharmacist Awareness Month.
Pharmacists and their teams play a vital role in our provincial health-care system by providing safe, quality care to their patients.
In particular, I acknowledge the more than 70 pharmacies that are connected to the Pharmacy Network, a core component of the provincial electronic health record, HEALTHe NL.
Their continued commitment and connection is improving the safety and quality of patient care.
Currently, more than 50 per cent of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have a medication profile on the Pharmacy Network.
And, of the over 5,200,000 prescriptions in the Pharmacy Network, there have been almost 76,000 instances when additional information was available to health professionals for decision-making had it been required.
Through the Pharmacy Network and HEALTHe NL, more and
more health-care professionals are increasingly using the Pharmacy Network information when treating patients. Having access to more comprehensive medication information at the point of care supports more informed decision-making, improved quality of care and greater patient safety for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
The centre continues to work with community pharmacies and Regional Health Authorities to reach full connection, and continues to invite all pharmacies to connect to the network.
Again, I offer sincere appreciation to connected pharmacies and their teams during Pharmacist Awareness Month and year-round. With your support, we are improving health through quality health information.
