Hello, Spring! Despite what the weather may tell you, it’s here. Spring is a season of new beginnings and growth, and the casting away of the darkness and stillness that we have clung to during the winter months.

A new team of wellness professionals in St. John’s has recently united with the intention to help you nurture yourself along your own path of growth. Together, as a team, we are called Elemental Energy, and we are professionals in the areas of mental health, education, nutrition and self-defence. This May, we are holding a group wellness event for women entitled “Redefining Self-care: A Gentle, Powerful Approach.”

This retreat invites you to redefine your own personal vision of self-care and to focus on nurturing yourself holistically: in body, mind and spirit. Created for self-identified women of all ages, stages and backgrounds, our retreat will take place on Saturday, May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at St. Nicholas Church Hall in Torbay.

Throughout the day, we have planned workshops dealing with such topics as mindfulness, body wisdom, intuitive eating, Wendo self-defence, body connection, body appreciation and spirituality for the modern woman. The day will include interactive discussions and activities, as well as time for introspection and will encourage you to nurture each of your most precious parts in body, mind and spirit. This is not a religious retreat; we welcome women of any or no faith background.

We know what it is like to feel tired, drained, uninspired, restless, insecure, afraid and pulled in all directions. If you can relate, we welcome you at this retreat. Together we will learn how empowering it is to recognize these feelings and sensations and to share them with others. Take this opportunity to grow in beautiful ways and allow yourself to develop a new way of defining self-care that works for you. Let’s make a new way of understanding ourselves holistically, so that we can make self-care an ongoing, whole-person process, rather than a one-time event.

If you are interested in becoming part of this retreat, please email us at elementalenergynl@gmail.com for the registration form. Please note that we are asking a fee of $80 for the entire day, including workshops, lunch, snacks and some surprises. The event is wheelchair accessible, and the meal and snacks will be vegetarian.

We are offering five sliding-scale spaces (i.e. pay-what-you-can). Ten per cent of all funds will be donated to the YWCA’s annual Power of Being a Girl conference, a similar day of consciousness-raising and empowerment for young girls in the metro area.
