I write concerning Bob Wakeham’s column “A Royal waste,” June 9.
Is this an example of the level of journalism that The Telegram has lowered itself to?
A rambling tirade that shows nothing more than ignorance and childishness on the part of the writer?
These are normally traits that are discouraged in people from their early formative years but can come to the surface in the bully and the weak. This is the lowest type of journalism that I have ever seen — even checkout tabloids don’t stoop to this type of trash.
It is understandable that some people don’t like the idea of royalty in general or the British Royal Family in particular. This is most evident in those who dream of a republic and the intangible advantages that come with it, and lazy or unimaginative journalists.
The Royal Family is great for the latter; few people in the audience like others who are socially higher, even if they are too lazy to better themselves and, like a true bully, will go for those who don’t fight back.
Was there any clear, concise reasoning why the British people shouldn’t have had this celebration or that it is time to retire the royals from our country? No, there wasn’t. Nothing but the schoolyard language and verbalizations of the bully. Tons of personal attacks and what was referred to as “making fun” when we were children. Is this the line that leads back to Seneca?
High unemployment, teen mothers, young leaving the island in droves, and Mr. Wakeham uses trash like this to pay his rent? Go to journalism school and learn to write on issues that matter, things that can change the world or at least your little corner of it. Don’t settle with attacking and asking questions; any politician can do that. Offer solutions and your reasoning of why it can work. Make a difference and earn your paycheque. Reread your work and see if it is something your mother would be proud of you for.
The British had a damn good party, as every now and then a country needs to cut loose and come together. We have July 1st, the Americans have July 4th, but the Brits really don’t have a celebration where the country can come together with a focal point. Then an occasion appears and they took advantage of it.
So who is Mr. Wakeham to complain or poke fun? No one, really. As a journalist for a reputable newspaper he should be far above this. As a reputable newspaper, The Telegram should have higher standards.

re: James So your answer to everything is to roll over and accept everything? I do have a right not to be offended, and to speak up when I have been offended. Who are you to tell a person with a different opinion that they cannot speak up? If I called you an asshole, would you would get offended and speak up? Sure, you would, and you would be right to do so. But it seems you want to take that away from other people, does that make you a grown up? I don't see irony in your post, only hypocricy and censor.
