Letter was extremely insulting

Misogyny, bigotry and ignorance  are alive and well and feature prominently in George McIsaac’s letter “Faith and secularism” in Saturday’s Telegram on June 30!

According to McIsaac’s very narrow world view, women should be be prodigiously producing babies, raising them at home, avoiding politics and public life, and making the world a better place in which to live. It was infuriating and insulting to read such a diatribe.

"Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food and tyrannize their teachers." (Socrates 470 - 399 BCE) Mr. MacIssac , and "Percy" above, are singing the same tune that has been sung by preachers and poseurs for millennia. Perhaps if they were to get off of their knees and actually do something, instead of wailing, moaning and praying, the world might indeed be a better place. Not much chance of that happening,

Maureen , George McIsaac, is no stranger to pointedly sharing his personal take on how his spiritual world turns, and does not hold back on loosely suggesting that we should join him on his 'path to glory'. George is a religious zealot. I respect his passionate religious values, and wish him well on his 'personal' journey HOME, at 'the end of his day on planet earth. Through the years, I have taken an 'editorial swipe' at George myself...he has always won-out...not because he was "correct or incorrect" in his views, I judged him not, but simply because of his 'right' to state them. Maureen (Robinson), from time to time, people of opposing views, to our own, sometimes can serve a very useful purpose(s) i.e. to tease-out our own personal values; or to take the time to re-think some of our 'stale' values; there's alot of information out there today challenging us to 'perhaps' review some of the significant 'takes' we hold or have held for many years, as the world changed about us. Some, can move with the tide, others get stuck and are thrown about by the tides 'of information out there' in this twenty-first century. Then there are others who still continue in the rigor of 'unchangeable values'. Maureen, I suggest that you not castigate George McIsaac, read what he has to say, take what may be useful to you, use it or leave it, George McIssac is just sharing...how personally we take his 'sharings' is our decision.

i think if at least one parent was at home raising the children while the other parent worked, kids of today would be much more respectful to adults and authority. today though, both parents have to work to ensure their kids , age 6 and up have to have their costly cell phones,no disipline ,constntly texting with no supervision as to whom or what they are texting . no parental guidance. what a world.

I say get over it as well! If our forefathers knew what was going on in today's world, they would roll over in their graves. Make no wonder we have produced children, that don't know the meaning of discipline. Religion was taken out of the schools, thanks to a Liberal Premier. The strap was taken out of the schools. Now they are saying if you slap a child, it can lead to mental illness down the road. Please, please, give me a break! Human philosophy at its' best! The religion of Humanism. A lot of parents' today are afraid of their children. Instead of parent's telling their children what to do, and what not to do, it is the other way around. Teachers are afraid of looking at a student the wrong way. Moral standards are unheard of, for the most part. Millions of babies are aborted every year, as if they were just a piece of flesh. Then we wonder why GOD is NOT blessing our country. We reap what we sow! Need I say more? I rest my case. God is LOVE, but he is also just. He is the ONLY authority that every person on this planet will ultimately answer to. The Bible says, answer to NO man/woman... If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.
