I just moved here to St. John’s from Ottawa at the beginning of June and I have been overwhelmed by the kindness, support and general goodwill I have received from the people of St. John’s and Newfoundlanders in general.

Following my graduation from law school, I was given a tremendous opportunity to come to Newfoundland and work at my dream job.

Nobody else gave me the chance that the Government of Newfoundland provided me with, and I could not be happier or more grateful.

I look forward to working hard to serve the amazing people of Newfoundland and Labrador, in the hopes of someday repaying the kindness that has been shown to me.

I wish the people of Newfoundland and Labrador all the best for the remainder of 2012 and beyond.

You'll do well on The Rock, Dave. You've already figured out that in order to be accepted here you must constantly rave about how fabulous this place is. Great PR if you have the stomach for it.

Thanks David for being so appreciative

Your very welcome David J. D’Intino, we are very glad to have you come to our province. I hope you have many enjoyable and prosperous years living side by side with us. By the way David your letter is the very first time that I have ever seen a Thank You written to the people of the province and it is so refreshing to have read what you worte. We have been part of Canada for 63 years now, we have sent off our natural and human resources worth Billions to create economies in the other regions of Canada over those years, and as far as I know ordinary Canadians have never been apprised of the fact that our province, Newfoundland and Labrador, has shipped off all of our natural resources in the "RAW" state so that the regions which became the benefactors of our resources created the vibrant economies from them and besides our human resource had to follow the tail of their own resources to find work. Thanks again for being so appreciative!

CW ... you mentioned having acquired a Masters degree...may I ask in which area of studies. If you share that with the public...you may receive a lot of positive suggestions. You seem to be frustrated...sometimes, it just takes a while. But, in the interim, maintaining a positive mind-set will help you recognize opportunities when they come along, and they will. If you maintain a defeatist psychological you just might become stuck in the negative-path and begin to give up on youself, unconsciously. That situation will quickly under-mind opportunties as you strenthened unconscious will overwhelm your 'possibile' realities...and you will simply not see opportunities to grasp. Simply, your negative subconscious will give up...ruling out possibilities before they reach your conscious desire to move forward with positive choices...simply, you'll just give up, and blame the world about you. Think about it. I think you'll agree. Let me know what you think! (Watch your language...(wishing you all the best).

I love that people are moving into the province for work while I, for one, have been looking for a position for over three months now since completing a masters degree from Mun. How about helping out young professionals from the province?? I only hope that qualified applicants from this province were not overlooked for this position. What is the Government doing to help those of us that are already here? It's sad that I, and many other young professionals, have to think about moving because of the lack of opportunities here.

Why the sarcasm CW. Why toss a sarcastic slur David's way? We live in Canada. The Job market(s) are open without restrictions, I would think, unless restrictions are specifically mentioned! Why not share a little about yourself...are you a lawyer, or other professional? Did David, specifically, deprive you of a job, or are you just generally angry? If you are, your negative affect, resentment may be displaying itself in your job-applications. You are presenting yourself as being quite antagonistic. Perhaps you might be better served if you asked for some advice from David...e.g. what did his application look like? What kind of references did he have? You seem to have no personal information about David, why attack him, or judge him? Take a look at your own disposition CW, you may be tripping over your own 'resentful disposition' which you may not be seeing...but may be apparent on your resume subliminally. My remarks are meant to be positive, read them and they might just help you get that job you seem to be seeking! Best wishes. You can begin to do that by ofering 'best wishes' to David...it's never too late...that positive move may just put a little positive bounce to your step which will be perceived by a prospective employer. Negativity, resentment is very difficult to mask. Employers cannot afford to have these character traits in their employ. They tend to do the dance of joy with their positive, socially attractive people within their services. My personal best wishes to you, have a look at yourself...my sense is you can do it wiith a push...let us know. Best wishes. I hope you hear from David...I bet he'll offer something positive to you, and not just ignore your remarks.

note that you do not have a law degree. i do not want government to hire locals with the intent of helping those who are already here.....rather, I want government to hire based on merit. I want them to hire the best person for the job, regardless of where they are from. If locals are the most qualified, then great, hire them. But if the locals are not the best, then they deserve to get passed over in a effort to hire the best person for the job.

CFA, I'm not sure what the 'drivers' are i.e. your own, or otherwise, whch continue to drive your 'very pained' existence which you descrbe; that said I suggest that you seek help, as you seem to have some serious pathology driving your super-charged negative emotional state. That said, you are in no position to offer anybody any clear, rational advice. Do yourself a serious favor and reach out for some help. Best wishes. David, welcome to Newefoundland. Newfoundland is no different, in many instances, than any other place on this planet where anyone might wish to settle. Human beings are not robots, stamped out by a piece of machinary; each one of us is unique....by the group we represent ourselves via a group-face simply described as 'culture', which is derived from the 'traditional character-mix' of its population . Culture is nothing more than the expression of who we are...and that said, Newfoundland and Labrador's culture has 'deep-pockets', a phrase which we otherwise commonly use to describe wealth. David, we are individually responsible for the paths we develop in life; we are not robots, thank God; and those differences amongst us is what defines culture. The culture in this province is very well respected world-wide as you likely know already...as you chose to take us for a 'test-ride'. Welcome to Newfoundland; best wishes in your chosen career.

@WTF.. only if you are a rude, pretentious, drunken clown with your pants down.. if you have any decency or good sense at all here, then you are advised to seek therapy.. BTW, your moniker just proves my point..

Welcome David, Yes this is a wonderfully, special place... I too am a CMA, and I too could not have been happier to come here when I did. But that was more than a few years ago, and unfortunately the downside of this place has since over ridden the benefits. Now, since we became oil rich, this city has turned into a busy, crowded, over zealous, expensive consumer playground filled with zombie like shoppers racing the streets in monster trucks, clamouring to buy the next or newest inane bobble, or looking for the next real estate deal. Not to mention the massive drinking problem, and nightly debauchery that is the norm in dark, smelly and frightening down town. (I hope you are not married- if so, chances are you won't be for long).. Sorry to be so negative and blunt, but i really hope that your dream will not be shattered like mine was along with my relationship. - and i wish someone had warned me in the first year i decided to invest my life in this place which has left me with nothing but disappointment. Good luck David BTW- I assume by your name that you are from Italian background.. so i am sure that your first complaint will be the quality of what we have for food- both at the over priced grocery stores and the awful and pretentious restaurants. On a brighter note, at least you can still find some places around the bay that have been unaffected by the trappings of affluence where the people are still genuine and decent as they used to be back in the day- In St,. John's, not so much..
