The Innu should not hunt the endangered George River herd.
If all interested parties continued this hunt, the George River herd will be no more.
Consider this: the George River herd migrates from the calving grounds on the eastern shores of Hudson Bay and Ungava Bay to the wintering grounds in Labrador.
Along the route, they are hunted by the Quebec Inuit, the Cree of Northern Quebec, the Chimo, Nescapie, Montanea, Quebec Innu, outfitters, non-indigenous hunters, Labrador Innu, Labrador Inuit, Labrador Metis and Labrador settlers.
Natural environmental factors such as predation, food supply and pollution are also considerable unknown variables in the unsolved equation.
All stakeholders need to protect this herd and do the right thing until we get to the bottom of this mystery.
Any one of these are capable of wiping out this precious resource.
