Be consistent, premier

On Oct. 9, the Halifax-based Atlantic Institute for Market Studies released energy consultant Gordon Weil’s analysis, “The Muskrat Falls Hydro Project — Opportunities and Risks.”

On Oct. 10, Premier Kathy Dunderdale dismissed the AIMS report as the work of a right-wing think tank. “Very right-wing,” she was quoted as saying.

Isn’t Prime Minister Stephen Harper also very right-wing? The premier has no qualms dealing with him.

What I find so laughable is Dunderdale's creation of a new Office of Public Engagement. No doubt, she'll add Newfoundland on the end of it and call it OPEN for short. The problem is that Dunderdale has shown time and again that she is the opposite of open. She is closed - closed minded, runs a closed shop and is closed even to the most constructive of criticisms. That character flaw accounts for her arrogant dismissal of Gordon Weil's study. ..... Creating an office for public engagement on the heels of the passing the most offensive secrecy bill seen anywhere in this country - or indeed in the western world - is absurd. No, you don't need to be a Rhodes scholar to know that this new department should be called the Office of Public Propaganda. Remember back a few months ago when Dunderdale insisted that there was nothing wrong with the Muskrat project - only that her office hadn't done a good job of explaining it. Well now she's found a place for all the government hacks, apologists, revisionists, and shills to get together to sell the Dunderdale dream to an unsuspecting public. I understand that they've already recruited a well known sock-puppet to run the office - John Smith.
