Knowing when to fold ’em

I know how to have the biggest poker game the world has ever seen.

Advertise the following rules for a poker tournament here in Newfoundland:

Newfoundland Poker Tournament, with re-buys.

The game: Muskrat Falls Hold ’em.

Buy-in: minimum $7.4 billion.

Players: Bankers, businessmen, governments and forced Newfoundlanders.

The dealer: the Newfoundland government, for every hand.

The deck: fixed by the dealer.

The game: rigged against all Newfoundland players, who must re-buy when broke and who are never allowed to cash out.

Prizes: prizes go only to bankers, businessmen and governments.

I think Muskrat Falls is a Poker game, as well.

The proposed Muskrat Falls contract sure sounds like a poker game to me as well, and the Newfoundland and Labrador hydro consumers are on the hook through their energy bills and tax dollars for 100 per cent of the mortgage payments. There will not be any earnings derived from this projeect, since as we are told the energy will go to Emera and the Mining Companies well below the rate it will cost to produce the energy. Why would any politician from this province ever devise a Contract so bad as this one when we are still reeling 42 years after the bad Upper Churchill Contract was signed off on that has caused us so much economic grief to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador but has brought untold Billions into the coffers of Hydro Quebec?
