Review was unacceptable

In response to Robin McGrath’s Dec. 2 review of my book, “You Can’t Take My Dog,” I would like to bring it to the attention of the editor that a personal attack is not a book review. She is perfectly entitled to criticize my book, but to make unfounded assumptions about my character and my personal life is completely unacceptable.

A love of animals does not preclude a love of human beings, Ms. McGrath, as the many pet lovers in this province can attest.

As a former pet store owner, a hospital administrator and a successful real estate saleswoman, with a wide and supportive circle of family and friends, I found your remarks about my personal life both nasty and incomprehensible.

You obviously could not relate to the subject matter of my book; the love between humans and their pets. Leave it at that, but please do not stoop to personal attack and call it a book review.

You did mention that my book is selling well, which says it all.

My book has struck a chord with pet owners across Canada and it was No. 2 on McNally Robinson’s bestsellers’ list, Winnipeg, during October 2012.

Feedback from my readers and numerous newspaper articles have all been positive.

It seems there are many people who love animals and my book speaks to them.
