King Stephen has decreed that St. John’s harbour should be off limits to his subjects. Sure, what odds? There’s a phantom fence all around Newfoundland anyway. Try going out in your dory to catch a cod.
We should rejoice and offer King Stephen maybe $500,000; sort of a Christmas thank-you gift for closing down the search and rescue centre.
I think we should keep the half-
million and build a nice fence to protect the relatively new and beautiful bandstand in bucolic Bannerman Park. What? We’ve done that already! Well, maybe we could use it to build a nice high fence along the highway, both sides, from St. John’s to Port aux Basques. Keep those pesky subjects away from their foolishness like berry-picking, hunting and hiking. That would help keep us on our long and winding road.
