Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Premier Kathy Dunderdale, National Defence Minister Peter MacKay and federal Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Peter Penashue were in
Happy Valley–Goose Bay on Nov. 30 for the signing of the federal loan guarantee term sheet for the Muskrat Falls project.
I am sure the huge airport at Goose Bay (built and operational for almost two years in the mid-1940s before the Commission of Government admitted its existence to the people of Newfoundland) was easily able to handle all the VIP air traffic that day.
It is no surprise to this observer that these four political worthies did not bother to travel the extra few air miles to Makkovik to offer their personal condolences and sincere apologies to the family and community of young Burton Winters.
They will come to the realization — too late, I expect — that their true business is not as a high priest chanting before the high altar of The Market or as the whatever-it-takes, that is, the ends justify the means or promoters of a legacy (read: vanity) project.
Instead, their sworn business is the well-being and safety of all citizens.
