Time to say goodbye

The Senate of Canada isn’t asleep after all.

The most useless Upper Chamber in Canada just voted that Senator Patrick Brazeau take a leave of absence with pay for recent alleged actions.

Now that the public eye is on them, let’s go further.

Everyone in that appointed pork barrel should be monitored far more closely than they currently are when submitting their expense claims to government.

Any senator found misrepresenting their expense claims for personal financial gain should be forced to repay all money owing to the Canadian treasury.

While they are in their current voting mood, the senators should now take a second vote and give Canadians something to really cheer about and at the same time save millions for Canadian taxpayers.

The motion will simply read: all in favour of abolishing the Senate by 2014?

The only acceptable answer that Canadian taxpayers want to hear is, “Yea.” I say by 2014 because, after all, we have to give them time to pack their bags and find new accommodations. However, they will not be allowed to claim any expenses.

The time has come for this unwanted, privileged Upper Chamber to do the right thing and abolish itself as soon as possible. If not, the people of Canada will soon do it for you.

Mr. Tizzrad, where in the name of god did you get the idea provincial polititians are doing what they promised and were elected to do? Seriously! They "get in" and toe the friggin' party line or sent to the back bench and told when to pound the desk. The majority of the governing party are in that group. And if Dunderdale, Kennedy et al are doing the job they were elected to do then I was led down the garden path just like everybody else. Did you see ANY reference to Muskrat Falls on their election mandate? Me neither.

ELI, you make a very good point. But, the only recall opportunity we have is the provincial election process, Eli. Perhaps, the geneal public should have a 'method' to challenge the worth of a politician i.e. challenge his/her right to remain in office for the remainder of a mandated period. A recall method, of sorts! Sounds good to me, ELI. What do you think?

Here, here....Scott. The MPs should do the work they were elected to do ...and don't bother to wake-up the snoring Senators...saving the the vast dollars wasted on nothing but PRO Forma, redundant waste of the 'hard-working electorate of Canada. The Senate is nothing but a wasteful, expensive 'pay-off' of Politicians who have already been over-paid for the work they do...leave the monies saved 'in the pockets of the 'average mere mortals of Tax-Paying Canadians. Elected Provincial Politicians seem to do the work for which they were elected to do, without the back-up of an elected 'PROVINCIAL SENATE'...and we mange to survive. No Province, that I am aware of, has collasped yet, without a Provincial Senate.

My suggestion is next election, we, the electorate, INSIST that all Federal Parties include in it's mandate, the abolishment of The Senate if elected. Then, hold them to it.

I agree Scott. I would further suggest that the 'APPOINTED' Federal Senate be ABLISHED ALTOGETHER. Provincial elected Members seem to be able to do their work without the 'concept' of, or review of, a Provincial Senate-like body. That would save many thousands of dollars in the provincial coffers, not to mention the pockets of the electorate, while getting the work done.
