Premier’s in a no-win situation

Watching Premier Kathy Dunderdale’s defence of work on the Confederation Building on TV Wednesday night, I realized she’s in a catch-22, really. It’s the current home of government, it is 60 years old, and no matter what party is leading, the work has to be done.

Unfortunately for her, she’s there at the moment. However, as for walking around buckets of water in the premier’s office, take a visit to the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s, the Waterford, the Recovery Centre, or to schools all around the province and you will witness similar conditions. The difference here is they have to wait; Confederation Building doesn’t.

We’ve heard too many situations over the years about perfectly good offices totally refurbished and remodelled the minute a new party/member occupies it, simply because they can. Their defence is weak, at best, and until they make some roll-up-your-sleeves-get-dirty decisions, no government party will ever gain any credibility.

What scares me the most is how over budget the work is and no accountability. Imagine what is going to happen with MF. Pennecon, Liannu, SNC are laughing all the way to the bank. Enjoy those power bills people.
