— Only a fool repeats the same
mistake and expects different results.
It is with absolute and utterly incredulous dumfoundedness in which I observe the daily workings and legerdemain of this provincial government, and equally baffling is the epidemic of apathy of the regular citizens.
First they get elected and take a six-month hiatus from the House of Assembly — which they never told the electorate about before we voted — but we were told by Her Majesty that the House really serves no purpose, pretty much.
A report a while back suggested half the bridges in the province can’t meet proper standards, the provincial ferry system and fleet has and is so poorly underfunded it has become a tragicomedy, schools, recreational facilities and health-related entities remain at the bursting point, especially on the rapidly growing Avalon.
No money, except for Muskrat Falls
Bill 29 was introduced to help this Orwellian and sometimes subversive government micro-manage the backbenchers and bureaucrats, half the province still has undrinkable water, yet there they were the consummate bullies ramming Muskrat Falls through, with all the accompanying hoopla of “We’ve arrived … no more have-not … we have to think big,” etc.
Then, of course, we are told weeks later that the coffers are empty, with hiring freezes, cutbacks to infrastructure investment, and so on.
People, wake up. We all know that this BlackBerry-obsessed bunch of sycophants are going to cut, deceive and bully for the next two years, wherein they will then offer to pave your lawn and massage your bunions before the next election. A few of them will move on to the trough of the Senate, while a few others will take a nice, fat appointment from some corporation.
It is not about revolution, large protests, etc., but regular voters really should try to exercise some sort of memory when the Tories come trolling next election.
Only a fool …
