Take a lesson from the East Coast

Our East Coast cousins are looking at more offshore drilling, and maybe Western-sourced oil pipelines. Meanwhile, we Lotus Landers dither and cry out, “No offshore exploration! Oil tankers are feared.”

Recall the Ocean Ranger disaster of 1982. Well, I guess East Coast leaders and oil folks have more confidence in their ability to learn from their experience and move on. Maybe we Lotus Landers should just get off the pot.

Come on, B.C., let’s progress. Yes, we don’t want yahoos running the show, but we’ll accept organizations that are willing to demonstrate their corporate bona fides, starting at the top.

Natural resources have supplied Canadians and much of the world with valuable commodities. We live with a relatively high standard of living as a result. There are risks and rewards. Those complaining are often the same folks who want more free government services but forget we have them because of risk-takers; hard-workers.

Young people should challenge and demand answers, and entrepreneurs and leaders should be steered into developing progressive opportunities to create a better social environment.

Some will profit, some will lose, but progress stops when we give up trying.

I agree Chantal, that US government payout was labeled by some as the biggest "welfare" payment ever made. And the frightening thing we also learned was that in spite of all their depositors and all their issued stocks, the banks were broke and had to be bailed out. And David writes and complains about a "few", in comparison, EI and welfare recipients? Heartless indeed- I hope he never finds himself in the same position as those unfortunates, none of them can steal anywhere like some are said to do.

"Some will profit, some will lose” I have no problem with developing our resources in an environmentally sustainable way. When the housing bubble burst, how much did the Wall Street “risk takers” lose? Nothing, they made record profits, bolstered by free government money. Why should we trust the corporate bona fides with our environment? It's always the same people who profit and the same who lose.
