Have you ever wondered why automakers seldom offer the option of top-tier luxury, convenience and technology features in models with their smallest most efficient engines? Not everyone needs or even wants more than 300-horsepower, so why not let those customers who like a car for its style, refinement and prestige opt for less performance without sacrificing all the other upscale goodies?

Porsche has long offered some of its top features with its V6-powered Panamera and Panamera 4, but now for 2013 the much-lauded four-door sport coupe will be available as a Platinum Edition that ups content without forcing would-be buyers to pay more for performance they don't want. In fact, the 2013 Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition can only be had with the base V6, which is no slouch at 300-horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. What's more, for $92,800 in rear-wheel drive or $97,400 in all-wheel drive, plus $1,115 for destination fees, the special Panamera is packed full of features that would cost thousands more if bought separately, along with exclusive content only available with the Platinum upgrade.

For starters it gets exclusive platinum silver metallic inserts on the lower grille, on the bottom edges of the door mirrors, and on the a rear diffuser, adding a little bling when compared to the base Panamera or Panamera 4. Inside, a new two-tone black/luxor beige motif combines partial-leather seating with a sport design steering wheel, Porsche crests on the front and rear headrests, plus aluminum doorsill plates embossed with "Platinum Edition" script.

While the Platinum Edition represents a $5,300 bump from either the base Panamera or Panamera 4, a number of features that are normally optional come standard with the package, such as Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation and a high-resolution 7-inch TFT touchscreen that includes a Bose surround sound audio upgrade with 585 watts of power and 14 speakers, normally $2,280 extra, and 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy rims, regularly $2,230, with full colour Porsche centre crests, usually $220 more. Additionally, the Platinum Edition includes almost everything in the $4,690 Premium Package, like bi-Xenon headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS), Power Steering Plus, and heated rear seats. Front and rear parking assist is included too, normally a $690 option.

The new Panamera Platinum Edition can be had in black or white, or optional basalt black metallic, carbon grey metallic, and mahogany metallic lacquer.

The 2013 Panamera Platinum Edition will be available January 5, 2013, although you can build one now on Porsche's online car configurator.
