This week is Right to Know Week, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner will participate in a number of public events, along with several other sponsoring organizations.
The purpose of Right to Know Week is to raise awareness about people's right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.
According to a news release, there are several events planned in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Commissioner's Office, along with Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA), the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), College of the North Atlantic (CNA), and Memorial University of Newfoundland will host an information booth at the MUN University Centre, 2nd Floor, Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Representatives from the Commissioner's Office will also participate in Access to Information presentations to students, staff and the general public at two CNA campuses: Wednesday in Stephenville, DSB Fowlow Building, 2-3:30 p.m.; and Thursday in Corner Brook, 141 O'Connell Dr., Lecture Theatre, 2-3:30 p.m.
Canada's national Right to Know website is www.righttoknow.ca.
