Officers train during simulated terrorism event

The Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU), the RNC, Fire and Emergency Services-NL, St. John's Regional Fire Department and the RCMP are carrying out training exercises this week in St. John’s. The CJIRU is the military support unit to the RCMP National Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Response Team. The training scenario involves the downtown core area of St. John’s. The scenario simulates a terrorism event and will exercise the deployment of local first responders. The main scenario was held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the former I.J. Sampson school on Bennett Avenue. Following are photos taken by Telegram photographer Joe Gibbons.
