IceCaps play first homestand of the season
After a stellar first season in the the American Hockey League (AHL) that saw the St. John’s IceCaps reach the third round of the playoffs, it is little wonder fans nearly took the roof off Mile One Centre in St. John’s Friday night October 19, 2012. A standing ovation greeted the team as they took the ice for the start of the 2012-2013 season and were introduced individually to the crowd. The enthusiasm continued as play began with the IceCaps quickly becoming dominant in the Adirondack Phantoms end of the ice. The first home ice goal of the new season again brought the crowd to their feet as Maxime Macenauer beat goalie Scott Munroe. While the team split the weekend series with the Phantoms, most fans seemed pleased with this year’s team and the new 500,000 LED score clock that hangs over centre ice. Here are some of the scenes from Saturday’s game. telegram@thetelegram.com
