Mummers Festival

Mummers dress in their finest to parade through St. John’s on December 15, 2012. The gym at Bishop Field School on Bond Street served as a staging area and dressing room. Those without the necessary costume pieces could choose from several tables of donated apparel, much of which bordered on the bizarre. But that made it perfect for achieving the desired effect and many people created their disguises on the spot. After ensuring each outfit was complete it was off to the streets of St. John’s with a stop at Bannerman Park. Enthusiastic crowds cheered and clapped along to the sounds of mouth organs, drums, accordions and ugly sticks. Many said the parade was bigger than last year’s. Photos by Gary Hebbard/The Telegram
