As part of the Festival 500’s daily concerts for 2013, joyous sounds resounded through the St. John’s Art & Culture Centre main auditorium Monday evening with The Maryland State Boychoir, from Baltimore, Md. The choir enchanted the audience with their opening set of numbers, including some local flavour with the ballad “Old Brown’s Daughter.” Artistic director Stephen A. Holmes told the audience the choir got the idea to perform the song from a Great Big Sea concert in the United States, attended by some of the choir members. They learned the lyrics, albeit with some changes, for their visit to St. John’s, for the festival. Other performers at the centre Monday night included the Georgetown Bach Chorale from Ontario and the Cape Breton Chorale from Nova Scotia. The festival wraps up on Wednesday night with a grand finale concert at the Mile One Centre in downtown St. John’s at 8 p.m. Visit www.thetelegram.com for daily photos of Festival 500.  — Photo by Joe Gibbons/The Telegram
