The MS Turanor PlanetSolar docked at St. John’s harbour Thursday, the northernmost point the solar vessel has ever reached. The ship, powered by 520 square metres of solar panels, is on a six-month scientific expedition with the University of Geneva to study the Gulf stream. By reaching Newfoundland, a region known for its difficult navigational conditions and frequent fog, the vessel, piloted by Captain Gerard Daboville demonstrated that solar navigation is possible even in the heart of areas with intermittent sunlight.
