The Telegram's Brendan McCarthy speaks to Hamilton Bulldogs forward and Upper Island Cove native Robert Slaney, who scored his first American Hockey League goal Tuesday night in the Bulldogs' 4-2 win over the St. John's IceCaps at Mile One Centre in St. John’s. Slaney, 23, had played 61 AHL games with the Toronto Marlies, Milwaukee Admirals and Hamilton before scoring Tuesday in front of a full house that included about two dozen family members and friends. A trade last month between the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens saw Slaney move from Milwaukee to Hamilton, the Canadiens AHL affiliate. By the way, the hard hat Slaney is wearing is a team award given by the Bulldogs to their player of the game. Slaney was also the game's first star.
