This year’s Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series will go at least five games thanks the Clarenville Caribous.
After dropping the series opener 5-1, the ‘Bous collected a 5-1 win over the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts in Sunday afternoon’s Game 2 to knot the series at one game apiece heading into Games 3, 4 and 5 at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook next weekend.
The Cataracts’ Andre Gill opened the scoring five minutes in, but regular season scoring leader Ryan Desrosiers made it a 1-1 game just a few minutes later. Brandon Nicholas would put the Cats ahead 2-1 before the first expired.
Brad Crann tied up again midway through the second period, and import defenceman Jeff Caron put the Herd ahead 3-2 with a power play marker that would turn out to be the game winner.
Matt Bragg added a single in the third and Chris Hulit put the game out of reach for the Cats with an empty-netter.
Jason Churchill stopped 24 of 26 shots faced while the Cats’ Mark Yetman was peppered with 34 shots.
