Rogers Bussey, Roebothan McKay Marshall one win from Triple Crown following victory in Harbour Grace Regatta

  The heavy favourites for Wednesday’s 194th running of the Royal St. John’s Regatta are that much closer to completing the triple crown of rowing this season.

Rogers Bussey and Roebothan, McKay and Marshall won the men’s and women’s championships in the 150th Harbour Grace Regatta Saturday at Lady Lake.

Rogers Bussey men’s crew broke the record record it set last year with a time of 9:41 in the championship race, eclipsing the 9:55.41 the team clocked last year.

Members of the team are cox Ben Colbourne, stroke James Cadigan, Adam Kavanagh, Ronnie Whitten, Daniel Cadigan, Craig Whittle, Matthew Manning and coach Brent Hickey.

Roebothan, McKay and Marshall also set a new course record last season, but came up a bit short in that department this year. Still, RMM won the crown Saturday, covering the course in 5:28.22.

Last year, RMM clocked 5:17.03.

Members of the team are cox Gord Delaney, stroke Jennifer Carroll, Allison Jones, Kerri Ann Evely, Beth Davis, Krista Carew, Heather Tizzard and coaches Doug Trainor and Mike Power.

Both Rogers Bussey and Roebothan, McKay and Marshall won the 49th Placentia Regatta earlier this month in Southeast, Placentia. The men’s won in a time of 9:33.03, while the women’s team stopped the clock in 5:12.83.

Carew Services of St. John’s was second in the men’s final at Harbour Grace Saturday, finishing in 10:05.85. Canadian Forces Base, St. John’s was third in 10:53:82 and Maher’s Contracting of Placentia rounded out the top four in 11:13:37.

X-it Corporate of St. John’s finished behind Roebothan, McKay and Marshall 5:46:81. Hyflodraulic of St. John’s was third in 5:53:59 and Aqua Crab Producers from Harbour Grace placed fourth in 5:57:36.
