Jon Hawco’s 11th goal of the season two minutes into the second half was all Holy Cross Kirby Group needed to for a 1-0 victory over Feildians Ernst & Young in Molson Challenge Cup soccer Wednesday night at King George V Park.
Scott Edwards posted the shutout as the league-leading Crusaders improved to 15-2-1 on the season.
Holy Cross has a 20-point lead on the St. Lawrence Laurentians, who have three games on hand.
Feildians could have overtaken the second-place Laurentians with a win Wednesday, but remain in third place.
Next league action is Saturday, when Feildians travel to Topsail for a 4 p.m. game against the Conception Bay Auto Strikers. Later that day, the Laurentians tangle with Mount Pearl That Pro Look Molson at the Gushue Complex.
St. Lawrence finishes its weekend road trip Sunday with a game against the Strikers.
