City Division skates to win in All-Star game

Kyle McGuirk and Tyler Parsons each scored twice as the City Division topped the Avalon Division 7-5 in the 14th annual Kent St. John’s Junior Hockey League All-Star Game Thursday night at Jack Byrne Arena.

Despite the loss, Avalon still holds an overall edge in the history of the event, with eight wins in 14 matches.

Chris Blackwood, Robbie Hynd and Robert Barrett also scored for City, which led 3-2 after the first period and 5-3 after two frames.

Brandon Ender, Bradley Budden, Trevor Forward, Andrew Gale and Jeremy Nichols replied for Avalon.

City outshot Avalon 32-31. Each team took a single minor penalty.

Scott Bray, Billy Dawe and Andrew Caines shared the goaltending duties for City, while Ryan Hennessey, Zach Mitchell and Matthew Power backstopped Avalon. Each netminder played one period.

Parsons who added two assists, was chosen the Jungle Jim’s player of the game for City. Ender got the player of the game nod for Avalon.
