Torbay Snowshoer representing Canada at World Winter Games in South Korea

Jeremy Mueller of Torbay is Newfoundland and Labrador’s lone competitor in the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea this week.

Mueller will compete in the 200- and 400-metre snowshoeing races along with the 4x100m relay. His first race is the 200m today followed by the 400m Friday.

The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation also includes team doctors, Dr. Carmel Casey and Dr. Neil Cheeseman,

Mueller is a 15-year veteran of Special Olympics, who was Special Olympics Canada’s male athlete of the year in 2012. He won four gold medals in snowshoeing at the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in St. Albert, Alta.

Special Olympics Team Canada is a 141-person team comprised of individuals from 87 different communities across our country. Athletes will be competing in eight Olympics-type sports including Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snow boarding, snowshoeing, short track speed skating, figure skating, and floor hockey and a floor ball demonstration.

Jeremy is one of 3,300 athletes competing at these games which end next Tuesday.

An all-around athlete, Mueller also competes in athletics, bowling, curling and swimming.
